Girl student preparing for PhD entrance exam sets self ablaze
PRAYAGRAJ, July 28 -- A student preparing for PhD entrance examination allegedly set herself ablaze at a hostel in Tagore Town here on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, police said. Landlord of the building broke open the door, rescued the girl and informed police.
The girl was rushed to SRN Hospital, where she succumbed to burns on Sunday morning, police said. Georgetown police seized her mobile to find a clue as to what prompted her to take the extreme step.
As per reports, the deceased had cleared UGC NET and lived in a private girls hostel in Tagore Town locality. Her room partner had gone to another district on Saturday evening to appear for the RO/ARO examination. She allegedly set herself ablaze at around 1:45am on Sunday.
ACP, Colonelganj, Rajiv Yadav and SHO Santosh Singh reached the spot with a forensic team.
The SHO said that they had a word with her family members, who were clueless about the possible reason for her taking the drastic step.
Five people, including an elderly couple, were reportedly injured in an attack by a jackal in Bhatni village under Lalganj police station area of Pratapgarh on Saturday night. The couple, attacked while sleeping outside their house, suffered grievous injuries.
The animal also attacked three others in the village. The couple was identified as Ramsajivan Vishwakarma, 65, and his wife Prema Devi, 60, residents of Bhatni in Lalganj police station area.
The animal also attacked 38-year-old Sunil Kumar, a resident of Sitamarhi in Bihar, and 28-year-old Pintu, who had come out of a factory in Bhatni after work.
Villagers rushed Sunil, Ramsajivan and Prema Devi to Sangramgarh CHC, from where they were referred to medical college.
Reports said that on Sunday morning, 52-year-old Ramkumar Yadav, a resident of the same village, was also attacked by the jackal, which was later beaten to death by the villagers....
