Silchar, Aug. 3 -- A Class 6 student was allegedly sexually assaulted by a group of senior students at her school in Kamrup district of Assam, police said on Saturday, adding that they have detained seven students in connection with the incident. The incident took place earlier this week when the girl went to toilet. The incident came to light on Friday after the girl's family lodged a complaint with the school authorities who then informed police, officials said. Following preliminary inquiry, an FIR was registered at the Rangia police station and seven Class 11 students were detained in connection with the incident. "We have taken seven students into custody for questioning based on the complaint. A detailed investigation is underway," a police officer said on condition of anonymity. The accused students have been booked under relevant sections of BNS and Pocso Act.
