VARANASI, May 17 -- A 60-year-old farmer was shot dead by unidentified assailants outside his under-construction house in Budhanpur village under Sadat police station area in Ghazipur in the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, police said. The victim has been identified as Prem Prakash Rai. A senior police officer said his kin informed that Rai was sleeping outside his under-construction house after having dinner as usual. He was shot dead from point blank range during the night. The incident came to light when Rai's wife Pratima tried to wake him up in the morning. She found Prem Prakash lying in pool of blood. The kin reached the spot and informed the police. Superintendent of police city Gyanendra Prasad and circle officer Saidpur Anil Kumar reached the spot. They talked to the family to gather information about the incident. The police officer said that the deceased's wife Pratima informed that her neighbour Shailendra aka Piyush Rai in inebriated condition had quarrelled with her husband and son over a trivial issue a month ago. Piyush Rai had threatened to teach them a lesson, she alleged. Rai was a farmer. His three sons Sushil Rai, Chanchal Rai and Ashu Rai live in Mumbai, and they have been informed. Station officer, Sadat, Bagish Vikram Singh said that based on the complaint of the deceased's wife Pratima Rai, a case under section 103 (murder) of BNS against Shailendra alias Piyush Rai has been registered. The matter is being investigated keeping in view all possible angles. The field unit (forensic team) led by Satyaprakash Singh investigated the crime spot and collected evidence. According to the forensic team, Prem Prakash, who was sleeping under a mosquito net, was shot in the head from behind due to which a small part of the mosquito net also got burnt....
