New Delhi, Sept. 7 -- A gold urn studded with diamonds, rubies and emeralds, valued at over Rs.1 crore, was allegedly stolen from a park outside the Red Fort during a Jain community religious festival on Wednesday, police said on Friday. The accused, posing as a worshipper, was caught on CCTV footage picking up the urn, which weighed about 760 grams and was decorated with 115 grams of precious stones. Police said four teams of nearly 50 officers have been formed to trace him. Deputy commissioner of police (North) Raja Banthia said a case of theft has been registered. "CCTV footage of the incident and the accused at the premises has been recovered, and teams are trying to identify him," Banthia said. The complainant, Sudhir Kumar Jain, 66, a businessman from Civil Lines, said the urn has been in his family since his father's time. He would bring it daily for prayers during the 10-day festival, which began on August 28 and concluded on Saturday. On the day of the theft, Jain said the urn was present till 9:20am. "I take the urn to the venue for prayers every day and bring it back. On Wednesday, the urn was right there, but when Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla came, we all looked at the stage and stayed engaged for the next hour. The man picked up the urn around 9:25am," Jain told HT....
