Jaipur, Aug. 31 -- Rajasthan agriculture minister Kirodi Lal Meena and the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) chief Hanuman Beniwal wanted to topple the Congress-led state government in 2020, former chief minister Ashok Gehlot alleged on Saturday. The remarks came a day after Meena and Beniwal were caught trading barbs during a television debate over the cancellation of the 2021 sub-inspector recruitment examination in Rajasthan. Meena had provided evidence of the leaks to the Special Operations Group probing the matter; while Beniwal was leading protests demanding justice for those affected. The two also accused each other of being "lootera" (robber). Asked about the war of words, Gehlot told reporters: "Kirodi Meena and Hanuman Beniwal used to be friends. They both joined hands to topple my government. That time, they used to roam around Rajasthan in the same helicopter. What should I tell them about their latest dispute now?" The former CM was referring the political crisis faced by his government in July 2020, when then deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot and at least 18 MLAs rebelled against Gehlot, asking for a change in leadership, prompting a month long power struggle that subsided after the party "high command" assured Pilot that his grievances would be looked into. Gehlot also attacked the ruling BJP, saying: "They say something to the public but act differently. They failed to take a decision over the SI-2021 exam..." Meena hit back at Gehlot, saying: "Ashok Gehlot, himself, is responsible for the possibilities that could have toppled his government. He instigated a rebellion inside his party by robbing someone else's rights. He saved his chair but his government was already toppled in people's eyes..." Beniwal, too, attacked Gehlot. "After the 2018 assembly election, I was ready to give my three MLAs without any condition when Sachin Pilot asked for the support to become CM. But, Congress got into an internal dispute when you started chasing for the CM's chair ignoring welfare of the people..."...
