VARANASI, June 4 -- At least 236 gaushalas (cow shelters) across four districts in Varanasi division have been equipped with sheds and tarpaulins to shield cows from sun and extreme heat. Additionally, a few of these shelters have been provided with coolers and fans for the comfort of animals. A total of 56,430 destitute or helpless cows are currently housed in 236 cow shelters in both urban and rural areas of four districts, including Ghazipur, Jaunpur, Chandauli and Varanasi, within the Varanasi division, said Dr Rajesh Kumar, additional director, animal husbandry department. Dr Kumar further stated that veterinary officers have been instructed to carry out vaccination as needed, adding that the chief veterinary officers of the respective districts have been instructed to regularly inspect the cow shelters and ensure timely provision of fodder for the cows....
