Ganj to get facelift soon: Colour scheme, lighting, furniture finalised
LUCKNOW, July 25 -- The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has finalised the colour schemes, signage, streetlights, furniture, and bollard designs for Hazratganj to restore its heritage charm.
The plan was finalised at a high-level meeting held at the Parijat Auditorium of the LDA, on Thursday, chaired by divisional commissioner Roshan Jacob. Samples of railings, benches and lighting fixtures were shown for approval during the meeting.
Shopkeepers flagged water and sewer issues in Hazratganj. Jacob instructed the Jalkal department and Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) to fix the connections after proper testing.
She also asked LESA officials to ensure underground cables and electric panels are streamlined before facade work begins.
The LDA will also develop a new green space, Moti Park, on an 11-hectare stretch near Motijheel, in Aishbagh area, in the state capital at a cost of Rs 7 crore.
Visitors will get walkways, kiosks, parking, and sitting areas in the park, which also includes an eco-friendly sewage treatment plan to clean water flowing into the Jamuna and Motijheel lakes.
To reduce pollution, LDA will set up a constructed wetland system to tap and treat the sewage water currently flowing into Motijheel and Jamuna Lake.
Treated water will then be released into the lakes, improving water quality for residents and aquatic life.
The commissioner also directed that a dedicated road be developed from Aishbagh Road to the new park.
Residents near Kukrail river will soon get a forest-style green zone. After clearing encroachments in Bhikhapur, LDA will carry out ecological development on the land, similar to the Saumitra Van model. The forest department will support LDA in this initiative. Jacob also asked the LMC to speed up development of Shakti Van, a proposed eco-park.
Jacob took note of persistent traffic snarls at Charak Chowk in the Old City area and ordered a redesign.
She said the current roundabout lies off-centre and disrupts traffic flow. She directed the LMC and PWD to carry out a joint survey and shift the rotary to the centre, besides widening the approach road from Nimbu Park.
Senior officials from the forest department, LMC, PWD, Metro, Jalkal, LESA, and Hussainabad Trust, along with representatives of the Hazratganj Vyapar Mandal, attended the meeting....
