Gangsters Act invoked against block chief, 10 associates
PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 30 -- Pratapgarh police have invoked provisions of the Gangster Act against Baba Belkharanath Dham block chief Sushil Singh and his 10 associates, accused in cases of drug trafficking and a shooting incident that left two people injured.
According to police officials, seven of the accused, including the block chief, are currently lodged in jail, two remain absconding, and one has obtained a court stay on the proceedings.
The case dates back to July 20, when Sushil Singh, a resident of Ramkola village under Patti Kotwali police station, along with his aides, allegedly opened fire on two men who had come to the registry office for a property transaction. Both victims were injured in the attack.
Following the arrests, police took the accused on remand and recovered a large quantity of a synthetic drug from near Sushil Singh's marriage hall, leading to a separate case under the Narcotics Act, police officials shared.
