Gangster Anupam Dubey gets life in 1995 murder case
Kanpur, Aug. 28 -- A Farrukhabad court on Tuesday sentenced gangster Anupam Dubey and his associate Balakrishna, alias Shishu, to life imprisonment for the 1995 murder of a public works department contractor. Each of them has been fined Rs one lakh, said DIG range Harish Chander.
This is the second murder case in which Dubey has been convicted. On December 7, 2023, a court had convicted him in the 1996 murder case of an Economic Offences Wing inspector, Ram Niswas Yadav. He is presently lodged in the Mathura jail.
The 1995 case relates to the murder of Shamim, who was shot dead by Dubey in a crowded market. The case was registered at Fatehgarh Kotwali police station under Sections 147, 148, 149 and 302 of the IPC.
The verdict came after nearly three decades, following sustained prosecution. Two other accused died during the course of the trial.
Dubey, once among the most feared names in central Uttar Pradesh, began his criminal career in 1987 and went on to face more than 65 cases across several districts.
These included charges of murder, dacoity, extortion, land-grabbing, fraud and kidnapping. Declared a mafia figure by the state government, he was booked under the Gangster Act and the National Security Act several times.
Police estimate that Dubey acquired properties worth over Rs 171 crore through his criminal activities. In October 2023, a luxury hotel he had built illegally on a pond in Farrukhabad was demolished.
