Mussoorie, Aug. 23 -- Pilgrimage routes to Gangotri and Yamunotri were disrupted on Friday after heavy rains triggered landslides, blocking key stretches of the highways. State data shows 174 roads are closed across Uttarakhand, hampering rescue and relief efforts in disaster-hit regions. Officials said the Yamunotri highway was blocked near Silai Bend on Friday morning. Restoration teams from the NHAI were rushed with heavy machinery. Road-clearing work also continued at Dabrani and Sonprayag with machines deployed along the Bhagirathi riverbanks. The IMD has issued a three-day orange alert, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. On Saturday, the alert is in effect for Dehradun, Bageshwar, Nainital, and Pithoragarh. By Sunday, it will extend to Uttarkashi and Tehri, and by Monday, most hill districts, including Rudraprayag and Chamoli, may be affected. htc...
