PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 7 -- After a downward trend on four occasions after reaching the 83-metre mark in the past over a month, the water level of the Ganga and Yamuna has again started registering an upward trend. It entered the Bade Hanuman Temple for the fifth time this year on Saturday. Three days back, the temple gates were reopened after water receded and cleaning of the temple premises had been completed. At 8pm on Saturday, the water level of the Ganga at Phaphamau was recorded at 82.52-metre while at Chatnag the same was recorded at 81.91-metre. Similarly, data of flood control room revealed that the level of the Yamuna in Naini was recorded at 82.51-metre. The district administration has alerted those living in low lying localities. Water started entering low lying localities of Chota Baghada, Salori, Bada Baghada, Bhadra Sonauti, Daraganj, etc making residents once again begin shifting their belongings to safer places, said ADM (finance and revenue) Vinita Singh, who is also nodal in charge of flood relief measures. Records said on Saturday morning, 4,00,915 cusec water was released from the Ganga Barrage in Kanpur besides 2,21,804 cusec from Narora and 1,10,837 cusec from Haridwar. Executive engineer, irrigation, RK Singh said water level of both the Ganga and the Yamuna could once again cross the 84-metre mark in the next 24 to 36 hours....
