Meerut, Sept. 7 -- A man wanted for double murder in Meerut was arrested in Maharashtra on Friday, ending a 12-year-long manhunt. The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (UP STF) arrested the accused, Irfan, near the Mohammadiya Mosque Bazaar in Nanded at 9:14 pm. Irfan, who had a Rs.50,000 bounty on his head, was wanted in connection with a 2006 murder case. He is a resident of Harra village under Saroorpur police station in Meerut. According to police, Irfan worked at a sweet shop owned by Zulfiqar. In 2006, after Zulfiqar accused him of misbehaving with young girls at the shop, Irfan attacked him with a knife. Zulfiqar later succumbed to his injuries."When Zulfiqar's 13-year-old daughter, Saju, came to see her father, Irfan also killed her by slitting her throat. The case was registered under IPC sections 452, 302, and 307. Irfan was arrested at that time and sent to jail. In 2013, while undergoing treatment at Meerut Medical College after a jail gang fight, Irfan escaped custody. He then travelled across several states-first to Paratpur, then to Delhi, Karnataka, Mumbai, Bihar, and finally Maharashtra-changing his identity and hiding in different cities. During this time, he married a woman named Parveen Bano in Bihar and obtained fake identity documents in the name of Aman Chauhan. He continued to sell herbal medicines while living under a false identity for several years. Acting on a tip-off, the UP STF team tracked him down to Nandgaon in Maharashtra. The operation was led by sub-inspector Sanjay Kumar, under the direction of ASP Brijesh Kumar Singh. Local police helped in the arrest. "Irfan is being brought back to Meerut on transit remand and will be presented before the court for further legal action," Singh said....
