LUCKNOW, Nov. 9 -- Action has been initiated against two firms in the state capital under campaign against illegal sale of cough syrup containing codeine phosphate. An FIR was lodged against two firms at the Sarojininagar police station. During investigation, it was revealed that the firms, both in Transport Nagar, Kanpur Road, Lucknow, were directly involved in the illegal trade of codeine-containing medicines (Phencypik T and TP syrup). One firm sells the entire codeine-containing medicine to another firm and then to further firms under the channel of illegal sale and diversion, read a press statement issued on Saturday by the food safety and drug administration (FSDA) department. "The licence of one of the firms in Lakhimpur Kheri was cancelled in 2023 but the firm in Transport Nagar in Lucknow continued sale (Phencypik-T syrup) to the firm in Lakhimpur Kheri through illegal bills till October 10, 2025. In all, 1,073 (100 ml) bottles were found illegally stored by this firm without a valid licence in Lakhimpur Kheri," said the press statement. "Investigation revealed that another firm in Kaushambi has been closed since 2022.
