New Delhi, Oct. 1 -- With the Union Budget presentation only a few months away, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman's office is relocating this week from the colonial-era North Block to the sixth floor of the newly constructed Common Central Secretariat (CCS) Building-1, part of the Central Vista redevelopment, officials aware of the matter said. On September 26, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, along with senior officials from Revenue, Economic Affairs, Expenditure, CBDT and CBIT, marked the departure with a commemorative photo session to mark this occassion that signifies the end of an era. The sandstone edifice, long synonymous with fiscal policymaking, is slated-alongside South Block-to become the Yuga Yugeen museum. An official said the process of shifting the the entire ministry offices is likely to take another month. The finance ministry has been allotted more than 300 rooms across the ground, fourth, fifth and sixth floors of CCS-1. The shift is being executed in phases: some DEA, Revenue and Expenditure offices have already moved, while others will follow over the next few weeks. While most of the home ministry has already started operating from CCS-3, the Union Home Minister's office continues to function out of the North Block. The wider Central Vista relocation plan includes moving ministries currently housed in Nirman Bhawan, Udyog Bhawan, Krishi Bhawan and Shastri Bhawan into future CCS buildings.
