Fresh FIR lodged in Pauri murder case
Dehradun, Jan. 11 -- A fresh first information report (FIR) has been registered in the Pauri Garhwal receptionist murder case over allegations of involvement of a "VIP" in the crime, police said.
The development came hours after chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami recommended a central bureau of investigation inquiry on Friday evening.
The FIR was registered at the Basant Vihar police station in Dehradun under sections 238 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender), 249 (harbouring offender), 45 (abetment of a thing) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) on the complaint of Padma Bhushan environmentalist Dr Anil Prakash Joshi.
It is alleged that the 19-year-old victim was being pressured to provide "extra services" to a VIP, which she had refused. During the trial, the victim's friends and colleagues informed the court of the same.
A fresh controversy erupted in December after actress Urmila Sanawar, who claims to be the wife of former BJP MLA Suresh Rathore, released an audio clip of an alleged telephonic conversation with Rathore. In the clip, Rathore purportedly claimed that a BJP leader had pressured the 19-year-old victim to provide "extra services", a euphemism for prostitution. Since then, protests have been taking place across the state demanding a CBI probe to investigate the alleged involvement of a VIP. The BJP, however, has denied the allegations.
Joshi, founder of the Himalayan Environmental Conservation Organisation (HESCO), said in his complaint that current media reports, audio and video clips circulating on social media, and public discussions were alleging the involvement of certain unidentified "VIPs" in the Pauri Garhwal receptionist murder case.
He further said that although those accused in the murder case have been convicted, it is being claimed on social media that some evidence was concealed or destroyed. "Therefore, it is necessary to investigate this crime involving the unknown person(s) referred to as VIPs to ensure complete justice," the complaint stated, adding that since the matter relates to unidentified VIPs, a separate, independent and impartial probe is required to uncover the facts....
