Fresh charges against Azam: Next hearing on October 1
Meerut, Sept. 22 -- The Rampur MP-MLA court on Saturday scheduled the next hearing for October 1 in connection with fresh charges added against senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan in the high-profile enemy property case linked to Mohammad Ali Jauhar University. Government counsel Rakesh Kumar Maurya confirmed the additions to the charge sheet.
During the proceedings held via video conferencing, the court informed Khan, who is currently lodged in Sitapur Jail, of the new charges under Sections 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code. These sections carry severe punishments ranging from ten years to life imprison- ment. The Rampur sessions court also issued release warrants in 53 cases and forwarded them to Sitapur Jail through both postal and electronic means. The jail administration has been tasked with scrutinising the warrants before taking any action.
Besides, the sessions court of additional district judge (ADJ) Second, Dr Vijay Kumar, ordered the verification of sureties in five other cases related to Khan.
Earlier, the MP-MLA special court on Thursday (September 18) had summoned Khan from Sitapur jail on September 20 in connection with the three fresh sections in the enemy property case. However, Khan was not brought to the court in person and the proceedings took place through video conferencing on Saturday.
