PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 27 -- A man involved in a Rs.12,000 fraud case allegedly committed suicide by hanging in Delhi, a day after his accomplice was arrested by Kohandaur police in Pratapgarh, police officials shared here on Sunday. On October 9, 65-year-old Sachchidanand Shukla of Parshurampur was shopping in Kohandaur market in Pratapgarh district when two men followed him, addressed him as "Jijaji," and snatched Rs.12,000 from him. CCTV footage helped police identify the suspects. Shiv Soni, also known as Kallu, a resident of Bhagwatganj, Mandhata, was arrested on Thursday and sent to jail. His accomplice, a resident of Sadak Khaderua, Dehat Kotwali, had fled to Delhi and reportedly hanged himself on Friday, a day after Shiv Soni's arrest, police officials added. SHO of Kohandaur police station Dhananjay Rai confirmed the incident and said authorities had identified and nabbed one suspect and were tracking the second before receiving news of his death. A Class 10 student from a village in the Ghurpur area near here was scammed out of a sum of Rs.1.32 lakh by online fraudsters, police said. The fraudsters allegedly told her that they had an online business by the name of 'Natraj Online'. She was first asked to pay a registration fee of Rs 620, but was then repeatedly threatened to pay more, police said, adding the harassment started on October 24. When her own account ran out of funds, Komal stopped transferring money. At this point, one of the fraudsters sent her a video showing people in police uniforms and claimed a case had been registered against her, threatening her with arrest if she did not comply with their demands. Terrified, Komal then began transferring money from her mother's account. In total, the cybercriminals reportedly stole Rs.1.32 lakh from Komal and her mother. "A case has been registered and an investigation into the matter is now underway," said SHO Dinesh Singh. Three students who fled a madrasa Pratapgarh's Raipur late Saturday night, were rescued by police three hours later from the forest area in Sadha village on Sunday. Two of the students hail from Sultanpur and the other is from Bhadohi. Police reunited all three kids, aged 6, 8 and 14 years, with their families. PRAYAGRAJ: A 9-year-old boy died after coming under the wheels of a pickup truck on Sunday morning in Manikpur area of Pratapgar, police said. As per reports, one Rita Devi from Prem Ka Purwa Kushahildih village was taking her 9-year-old son Satyam to harvest paddy at around 9:30 am when the child was run over by the speeding truck.
