Lakhimpur Kheri, March 25 -- Another female rhino was successfully released into the open in Dudhwa from its enclosure on Tuesday. Earlier on Monday, three rhinos- Harsh, Sushma and Rashee- were released in the open. Field director, Dudhwa Tiger Reserve (DTR) Dr H Rajamohan told Hindustan Times that four rhinos against the target of six in this phase have been released since Monday. He added the remaining two rhinos would be released in coming days on availability of renowned rhino expert from Assam Dr KK Sharma. He said, "Round the clock monitoring of the four rhinos released so far was being done through the radio-collar signals till they got adapted to their new environment." UP forest department had taken a decision in 2024-25 to give freedom of movement to 10 rhinos from their fenced enclosure in Dudhwa to boost the gene diversity in the rhino family and to counter the fears of inbreeding among them.
