Four-year-old rescued from predator's clutches; several injured
Bahraich, Sept. 24 -- Despite several measures by the Uttar Pradesh forest department, the terror of wild animals continues to haunt Kaiserganj tehsil of Bahraich.
After two deaths and the mysterious disappearance of a three-year-old child in recent weeks, panic struck Baba Bangla village when a wolf entered a house and snatched a four-year-old child on Tuesday afternoon.
The child, Prince, son of Shobharam, was inside his home at the time of the attack. Hearing his screams, the family and villagers rushed out.
The wild animal abandoned the child in a nearby paddy field and fled into a sugarcane thicket when confronted by the crowd. Prince, who was seriously injured, was taken to the community health centre in Kaiserganj, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
The incident has left the villagers shaken. That same night, as many as five other people-including elderly men and a woman-were mauled in different hamlets of Majhara Taukli village. The victims include Suraj Lal, 70, Sushila, 55, Ganga Ram, 60, Ram Lal Gautam, 65, and Prithvi Raj Pal, 55.
They were attacked either in their fields or while returning home. After receiving first aid locally, all were referred to Bahraich Medical College for further treatment.
The series of attacks has sparked panic and anger in the affected villages of Majhara Taukli, Devnath Purwa, Gandhu Jhala, and neighboring areas.
Despite the forest department's deployment of teams, installation of camera traps, and awareness drives, the wild animal continues to strike both in broad daylight and at night.
Villagers allege that the authorities have failed to provide security or clarity, as the Forest Department has not yet confirmed whether the animal is a wolf or a leopard."Our children and elderly are unsafe even inside their homes. How long will we live in fear?" asked Ramdeen, a terrified villager....
