Four women among 5 killed as tree falls on bus in Bbk district
LUCKNOW, Aug. 9 -- Five people, including four women, died when a tree fell on a moving roadways bus due to heavy rainfall on Haidergarh road, under the Jaidpur police station limits of Barabanki district, on Friday morning, senior police authorities confirmed. They said several passengers are still trapped, and a rescue operation is underway to pull them out of the bus.
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed deep condolences over the loss of lives in the accident. He conveyed sympathies to the bereaved families of the deceased and ordered an ex gratia payment of Rs.5 lakh to each of the families.
A senior police official said that the incident happened near Harkha Raja Bazaar when the bus was travelling from Barabanki to Haidergarh. He said the impact was severe, the entire roof of the bus got crushed, causing injuries to some passengers.
He said local authorities and police have reached the site, and a JCB has been called in to assist in the rescue efforts. He said the exact number of injured passengers is not yet confirmed.
Barabanki chief medical officer (CMO), Awadesh Kumar Yadav said the identities of the deceased in the accident have been ascertained as a teacher, Shiksha Malhotra, two assistant development officers (ADO), Meena Srivastava and Juhi Saxena, and a local, Rakeebul Nisha (55), all residents of Barabanki, and the bus driver, Santosh Soni (38)....
