Four smugglers arrested, ganja worth Rs.40 lakh seized
PRAYAGRAJ, Nov. 6 -- The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Prayagraj unit of the Uttar Pradesh Police arrested four inter-state drug traffickers near Markundi in Chitrakoot district on Wednesday. The team seized 80 kilograms of illegal ganja, estimated to be worth around Rs.40 lakh, from two vehicles coming from Odisha, police said.
According to officials, the arrested smugglers were transporting the contraband to Banda district. Acting on a tip-off, ANTF operational unit in-charge Satyendra Pradhan, along with Markundi police, intercepted two four-wheelers near Dodamafi turn in Chitrakoot. On inspection, the police recovered 80 kg of ganja hidden inside the vehicles. The arrested accused have been identified as Ravi Shivhare and Satyaprakash Shivhare, residents of Mataundh, Banda; Gangaram Kushwaha, resident of Parsaha, Kabrai, Mahoba; and Harishchandra Shivhare, resident of Naugaon, Chhatarpur (Madhya Pradesh).
During interrogation, the accused confessed to bringing ganja from Odisha to sell it at higher prices in Banda and adjoining districts. ANTF operational unit in-charge Satyendra Pradhan said a case has been registered against all four accused....
