Gorakhpur, Sept. 7 -- Four members of a family were rescued after a massive fire broke out at a godown located in their building at Govind Nagari near H.N. Singh crossing here on Saturday morning, officials said. The building was engulfed in thick smoke, and the trapped residents cried for help from windows and balconies. Six fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Firefighters rescued Sunaina Banka (47) and Kiran Banka (75) from the second-floor balcony, and Murari Lal Banka (70) and Anup Banka (50) from the third floor. The building's ground floor was being used as a godown for clothes. After the fire was brought under control, police officials confirmed that no other persons were trapped in the building. Initial investigations suggest that the fire was caused by a short circuit. Chief fire officer (CFO) Santosh Kumar Rai, fire station officer (FSO) Shantanu Kumar Yadav, and firemen Nirbhay Rai, Ashish Nandan Kumar and Rajkumar Yadav sustained minor injuries during the rescue. Officials said the incident occurred around 9:30 am when flames suddenly emerged from the closed shutter of the godown.
