Four nabbed for snatching woman's handbag, selling stolen valuables
PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 15 -- Cops nabbed four men involved in snatching the handbag of a woman. The incident took place on October 10, and the arrests were made on Tuesday after a joint operation by the Kotwali police and the Special Operations Group (SOG).
According to police, Abhay Tripathi, a resident of Chakia GTB Nagar under Khuldabad police station, conspired with two of his friends to loot the handbag of one Kiran Tripathi who was returning home with her family from Chheoki Railway Station. The robbery took place in the Gobar Wali Gali area when the three accused, riding a bike, snatched the handbag containing jewellery, a mobile phone, and Rs.12,000 cash.
During the investigation, CCTV footage helped the police identify the culprits.
Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Abhay Tripathi, Sahil alias Butler (a resident of Chakia Bairahana), and Kishan alias Suraj Prajapati (resident of Chakia Chak Miratul). They also recovered Rs.82,250 in cash-proceeds from the sale of the stolen jewellery-a mobile phone, and the motorcycle used in the crime.
The accused confessed to selling the stolen jewellery to one Syed Tanveer of Chak Miratul and Dilshad of Khuldabad. Tanveer has also been arrested, while efforts are underway to nab Dilshad, said additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) Pushkar Verma while talking to media persons.
He said the prime accused Abhay Tripathi admitted during interrogation that his girlfriend frequently demanded expensive and branded items for which he resorted to robbery with the help of his associates.
Police further revealed that Abhay Tripathi is a repeat offender with previous cases of robbery and theft registered against him at Daraganj, Dhoomanganj, and Kotwali police stations. He has also served time in jail earlier, police added.
The police are continuing their investigation and are hopeful of arresting the remaining accused soon....
