LUCKNOW, Nov. 4 -- The Chinhat police have registered a murder case against a Darjeeling-based woman and her two friends on the orders of a Lucknow court in connection with the death of 38-year-old graphic designer Manish Shukla, resident of Vivek Khand, Gomti Nagar. The case was registered on October 31, over four months after Manish's body was found floating in the Kathauta Lake on June 27. Inspector Dinesh Chandra Mishra said that Manish's post-mortem report stated that the cause of death was drowning. Manish's supposed girlfriend and two friends have been charged with murder. According to Manish's father, Krishna Kumar Shukla, a retired HAL personnel, his son was taken to a party at 10 pm on June 26 by Vinay Dubey, Arpit Srivastava (both Lucknow residents) and Poorvi Jain, resident of Darjeeling, West Bengal. Manish did not return home and the news of his body being found in Kathauta Lake was reported in the newspapers on June 27 morning. Family members refuted the police claim that Manish had drowned and insisted that he was a good swimmer. His friends Vinay Dubey and Arpit, who were present at the scene, claimed that Manish had gone into the lake alone. They also said that a party had been thrown as Poorvi was leaving Lucknow for her hometown, adding that Arpit, Vinay, and Manish left a bar to go to Poorvi's flat and stopped at the Kathauta Lake for a smoke. Despite the complaint, the police did not register a case initially. On failing to get help, Manish's father approached the court. On October 31, Chinhat police registered a murder case against the three friends on court orders....
