VARANASI, Aug. 24 -- Four individuals, accused of murdering a 25-year-old man for fishing in a dam in Mirzapur district on Thursday, were arrested on Saturday, police said. The four-Krishnanand, Suresh Singh, Manish Prajapati and Sujit Choubey-who were hired to keep watch of the dam under Ahraura police station limits, allegedly thrashed Pradeep Patel with a hockey stick for fishing there and pushed him into the water, said police The postmortem report confirmed a head injury and the cause of death to be suffocation, Mirzapur superintendent of police Somen Verma said. "Pradeep, who went to fish, was beaten by four watchmen and thrown into the deep water of the reservoir. Due to the head injury and not knowing how to swim, Pradeep drowned in the reservoir. All four accused have been arrested for murder," he added. Meanwhile, divisional commissioner Balkrishna Tripathi assured Pradeep's wife Priyanka Patel of destitute pension and other government assistance.
