PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 6 -- Former station house officer (SHO) of Kotwali Nagar police station in Pratapgarh, Jaichand Bharti, has been absconding following a corruption case in which he was accused of accepting a packet at his residence from history-sheeter Mussan, the main accused in the Biharganj market shooting incident. The reward for his capture has now been increased to Rs 50,000 by the inspector general, up from the Rs 25,000 earlier announced by Kaushambi SP. Bharti was suspended the day after the June 16 Biharganj market shooting in Pratapgarh, in which two cousins were shot. Investigations later revealed that Bharti had received a packet from the main accused, history-sheeter Mussan, at his residence a day before the incident. Additionally, Bharti had spoken to Mussan on the phone three times before the incident. After the allegations were corroborated through CCTV footage, Nagar Kotwali Inspector Neeraj Yadav, acting on orders from the IG, filed a corruption case against him. However, Bharti had absconded from the police lines before the case was filed. Kaushambi's Manjhanpur (CO) Shivank Singh, who was investigating the case, also named Mussan and his brother as accused in the corruption case. When the anti-corruption court recently rejected the anticipatory bail of Jaichand Bharti, Kaushambi SP Rajesh Kumar had announced a reward of Rs 25,000 on his arrest. However, on Sunday, IG (Prayagraj) Ajay Kumar Mishra increased the reward amount to Rs 50,000. It may be mentioned that after being named in the corruption case, police from other districts have also launched a search for Bharti, but he remained elusive. Since locking his house in Mirzapur and fleeing with his family, his mobile phone has not been switched on even once, and his ATM card has not been used to withdraw any money from his bank account....
