Former MLA's wife, four others booked for encroaching seized land
PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 6 -- A case has been registered against five individuals, including the wife of former Gyanpur MLA Vijay Mishra, at the Handia police station in Prayagraj's Handia tehsil for allegedly encroaching on government-seized land and illegally planting paddy, police said.
The FIR was lodged on Monday based on a complaint by the local revenue officer (lekhpal), and a probe into the matter has been launched. The land in question was seized in 2009 under the Gangsters Act. Officials sealed the land and immediately destroyed the crop using a tractor, they added.
Assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Handia, Sunil Kumar Singh confirmed that a named FIR has been filed against five individuals based on the lekhpal's complaint and further investigation is underway.
According to police, Akhilesh Kumar Yadav, the lekhpal of Handia tehsil, also holds additional charge of Barhauli and Sarai Civil (also known as Khaptiha) villages.
Reports said a case under the Gangsters Act was registered against Vijay Mishra at the Phulpur police station in 2003. Based on that case, then district magistrate Rajeev Agarwal ordered the seizure of 0.2970 hectares of land and a double-storey house belonging to Vijay Mishra and his wife, Ramlali Mishra, in Khaptiha village on October 24, 2009.
As per the complaint, Ramlali Mishra, along with her associates Satish Mishra, Ashish Mishra and Premshankar Mishra, illegally ploughed the seized land and cultivated paddy on it.
