Meerut, Oct. 18 -- Tension gripped Satwai village in Meerut's Rohta area after former BJP MLA from Siwalkhas, Jitendra Satwai, and his brother, Chandraprakash, accused a group of youths of opening fire at them on Wednesday. The incident triggered a major protest by the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU - Tikait faction) on Thursday morning, with the union alleging that a false case had been registered against its members. According to the complaint lodged by Chandraprakash at the Rohta police station, BKU workers Gaurav, Saurabh, Nonu, and three unidentified persons fired shots and attempted to kill the former MLA and his brother. Acting promptly, police reached the scene and arrested one of the named accused, Saurabh. Former MLA Jitendra Satwai, claimed that a group of young men had been creating a nuisance in the village for several months. "They gather near my house late at night, drink alcohol, and pass comments at women walking on the road," he said. Satwai added that he had warned them multiple times but they did not stop. "On Wednesday night, I once again tried to make them understand. They left at first but returned after a while, hurled abuses, and opened fire with the intent to kill. My security guard, Arun Kumar, intervened, after which the attackers fled, threatening to kill us," Satwai alleged. After news spread of the FIR and Saurabh's arrest, BKU district president Anurag Chaudhary led a massive protest outside the Rohta police station. The agitators accused the former MLA of misusing his influence to file a fabricated case against BKU members. Chanting slogans and holding placards, they demanded that the police withdraw the FIR and register a counter-case against the ex-MLA. The protest continued for nearly seven hours, with hundreds of union members refusing to leave despite repeated appeals from circle officer (Sardhana) Ashutosh Kumar, who assured that the matter would be investigated thoroughly within three days. The agitation finally ended around noon after the assurance was given. Meanwhile, BKU district secretary Harsh Chahal warned that the union would launch a larger movement if the alleged false case was not withdrawn. He said, "The former MLA's claims are baseless. This is a case of personal enmity over a land dispute, and our workers have been framed deliberately." As tensions rose, police deployed heavy force outside the station to prevent any untoward incident. Later, the arrested accused Saurabh was released on bail and handed over to his family. Senior superintendent of police Vipin Tada said that SP (Rural) Abhijit Kumar has been assigned to investigate the case. "The SP Rural will submit a detailed report within three days, and further action will be taken based on his findings," the SSP stated....
