Meerut, Sept. 16 -- A former block pramukh was found murdered at his residence in Zahidpur Kala village in Bulandshahr district on Monday, police said. Vinod Chaudhary's throat was slit, and he was found dead on his bed by one of his brothers in the morning.
Chaudhary, 49, who had multiple criminal cases registered against him and was previously convicted in a murder case, lived alone. His wife and children live in Delhi. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Dinesh Singh, accompanied by a forensic team, probed the crime scene. A knife was recovered from the scene. Deep cuts were found on Chaudhary's neck, and two mobile phones were recovered from the room. The police believe that the motive could be linked to an old rivalry, and the killer may be someone familiar to Chaudhary.
Vinod had served as the block chief of the Khurja-Jewar region and was involved in property dealings. In 2022, he was sentenced to life imprisonment in a 2007 murder case, but had been out on parole for the past year. His criminal record and alleged involvement in multiple disputes are under scrutiny.
As per his younger brother, Sudhir Chaudhary, a property dispute a few months ago had escalated into threats and intimidation. Vinod had reportedly approached the police two months ago, citing threats to his life. Vinod's help Ankit had gone home at the time of the murder. The body was found by his brother Banti, also known as Devaraj.
The police are also revisiting older cases linked to Vinod. Vinod had recently become a member of the BJP at the district level. However, his membership was cancelled after his conviction came to light....
