Former BJYM leader shot dead, probe on
Dehradun, June 4 -- Two bike-borne assailants indiscriminately fired at four friends sitting in a vehicle, killing one of them after a bullet hit his neck, in the early hours of Tuesday, a police official said.
According to the police, the four friends were sitting in a vehicle at DBIT chowk when one of the two bike borne assailants opened fire at the people sitting in the vehicle from front. A bullet hit 22-year-old Rohit Negi's neck, following which he was taken to the Graphic Era hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
The deceased was former president of Sahaspur mandal of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), said superintendent of police Pramod Kumar.
Upon receiving complaint from Abhishek Bartwal, a first information report (FIR) was registered against Azhar Tyagi, a resident of Muzaffarnagar, and an unidentified person under sections 103 (1) (murder) and 3 (5) (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Vikasnagar police station.
In his complaint, Bartwal stated, "I, Nishant Kharkwal, Piyush Bisht, and Rohit Negi were sitting in the vehicle. Rohit was driving, and I was seated next to him. Nishant and Piyush were in the back seat. Our friends Ayush, Anya Khan, and Tarun were following us in a separate car. When we reached DBIT Chowk, Anya Khan was speaking to the accused, Azhar Tyagi, on hands-free. Tyagi said something about Rohit during the call. Rohit asked, 'What is he saying?'
In response, Tyagi threatened us and told us to meet him at DBIT Chowk before ending the call.
Soon after, Rohit turned the vehicle around to go back home. At that moment, two men on a bike approached us, and Tyagi, who was riding pillion, opened fire on the front of our vehicle. Rohit sustained bullet injuries and was rushed to Graphic Era hospital, where he was declared dead."
Senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said, "We have registered the FIR and our investigation into the matter is underway. We are making efforts to arrest the accused."
"In the preliminary investigation so far, it has come to light that the accused was acquainted with the girlfriend of the deceased's friend. On the night of the incident, the deceased was at his friend's house along with the friend and his girlfriend. During that time, she received a call from the accused, which led to an argument between the accused, the deceased, and his friends. It appears that the accused committed the crime in a fit of rage," the SSP said....
