LUCKNOW, Dec. 20 -- Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Friday demanded constitution of a "Syrup Task Force" of honest people to conduct an impartial investigation into the codeine-based cough syrup scam that he claimed originated in Uttar Pradesh. "The BJP government is responsible for the fake and poisonous codeine cough syrup. When you get caught, blame someone else...this is a very old trick. The rulers should come up with something new," the Kannauj MP said, refuting allegations that the accused in the scam had links with the Samajwadi Party. "This illegal business worth thousands of crores spread from UP to other states...it has the protection of BJP government. Many other illegal businesses are also flourishing under the BJP government. Land mafia in various districts are illegally encroaching on government and poor people's land," he claimed. "The STF investigating the cough syrup case is also colluding with illegal traders. No action has been taken so far. For an impartial investigation into the scam, an honest 'Syrup Task Force' should be formed," demanded the SP chief....
