Guwahati, May 31 -- People with origins in Bangladesh, who have been declared foreign nationals by state tribunals are being sent to the neighbouring country following the directives of the Supreme Court, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Friday. Speaking to reporters in Guwahati, amid reports of suspected Bangladeshis including 14 people from Assam being sent to the no man's land near the India-Bangladesh border, Sarma said the process will continue. "There are two types of intruders. Those who have entered recently or are trying to enter India and those who have been staying here for many years and have been declared foreign nationals by tribunals. Unless they have stay orders from courts or have challenged the orders of the tribunals claiming to be Indians, the government is bound to push them back to Bangladesh as per directions given by the Supreme Court," the chief minister said. The police are not targeting the people who have documents to show that their cases are pending in courts or they have got stay orders, he said. "There could be some who claim that their cases are pending in courts or they have stay orders, but if they can't produce documents of the same, they are bound to be pushed back," the CM said. Citing official records, he said that around 30,000 people who have been declared foreign nationals by tribunals in Assam have gone missing, and the state is required to detect and deport them.
