Floods in Lakhimpur Kheri submerge 169 villages, affect 82,000+ people
Lakhimpur Kheri, Sept. 4 -- The rising water levels of the Sharda River, following heavy rains, have caused severe inconvenience to residents of over a hundred villages across Phoolbehar block in Lakhimpur tehsil, Bijua block in Gola tehsil and numerous villages in Pallia, Nighasan and Dhaurahra tehsils. Houses, huts and agricultural crops have been inundated by floodwaters.
District authorities reported that 95 villages were affected by floods on Wednesday, bringing the total flood-hit villages to 169 across the five tehsils of Lakhimpur, Gola, Pallia, Nighasan, and Dhaurahra, impacting approximately 82,514 people.
Farmers in the affected areas have suffered crop losses estimated at Rs. 7.04 crore so far.
Officials added that 38 flood outposts staffed with 38 medical teams, 19 flood relief centers, 54 boats, and 78 divers have been deployed to provide relief and rescue services. Additionally, NDRF and flood PAC personnel have been mobilized to handle any emergency situations.
According to district flood control officials, by 6 pm on Wednesday, the Sharda River was flowing 49 cm above the danger level at Pallia barrage and 16 cm above the danger level at Shardanagar barrage, with a water discharge of 213,276 cusecs.
The swollen river has submerged dozens of villages in Pallia, Gola, Nighasan, and Dhaurahra tehsils, with approach roads to many villages also underwater.
Additional district magistrate (ADM) Narendra Bahadur Singh, along with SDM Pallia Dr Avanish Kumar, visited flood-affected villages including Bhanpur, Khajuria, Ajadnagar, Barbadnagar and Atariya on Tuesday by boat and motorboat to provide relief and assess the situation.
