Agra, Sept. 8 -- The Yamuna in Agra breached the danger mark of 152.400 metres on Sunday afternoon. Even as it was measured at 152.415 metres around 3 pm, 1,37,373 cusecs of water were being released downstream from Gokul Barrage in Mathura, adding to the flood scare in Agra. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was placed on alert, and shelter homes were set up in areas near the Yamuna's banks. Additional district magistrate (ADM)-Finance & Revenue Subhangi Shukla said excess rains in hill areas and rising water level at the Hathini Kund barrage in Haryana were the reasons why the Yamuna was still in spate. However, the Chambal, which flows in rural belt of Agra, was stable at 124.60 metres. The high flood level is at 154.760 metres in Agra. The affected villages are Tanora, Mehra Naharganj, Visarna, Kailash, Swami Bagh, Bharapur, Bamroli, Idon, Madayana, Melikalan, Guda, Meweli Khurd, and Himayanupur. In urban Agra, the affected areas are Nagla Bhoodi, Amar Vihar Dayalbagh, Moti Mahal, Katra Wazir Khan and Rambagh. "A flood-like situation persists in Balkeshwar, Anurah Nagar, Manoharpur, Nagla Bhoodi, Amar Vihar, Dayalbagh, and Krishna Colony in the city. Shelters have been set up at ITI Balkeshwar, Kailash Mandir, Ambedkar Vatica and Moti Mahal, and NDRF is placed on alert," she said.
