VARANASI, July 7 -- Floating bathing barriers (pools) will be installed at 18 iconic ghats along the Ganga in Kashi to prevent drowning incidents. Initially, the floating barriers will be installed at ghats such as Meer Ghat, Tulsi Ghat, Panchganga, and Pandey Ghat-locations where several drowning incidents have occurred over the past six months. Ghats including Assi, Meer Ghat, Tulsi Ghat, Panchganga, Ahilyabai Ghat, Scindia, Rajghat, Darbhanga Ghat, Bhonsle Ghat, Pandey Ghat, and Kedar Ghat will be equipped with floating barriers (pools) to enhance safety and prevent drowning incidents. The district administration has initiated preparations for installing the floating barriers. Officials from UP Projects Corporation Ltd have been directed to draft a project plan for their installation. Confirming the development, district magistrate Satyendra Kumar said, "Floating bathing barriers will be installed at 14 to 20 ghats to prevent people from slipping into deep water while bathing in the Ganga. Instructions have been issued to officials of UP Projects Corporation Ltd to conduct a survey of the ghats and prepare a proposal for setting up the barriers accordingly." He added that officials will soon conduct a survey of the ghats to identify those that attract large crowds for bathing in the Ganga, as well as those with greater water depth and a higher number of drowning incidents. Based on this, a list of priority ghats will be prepared for installing the floating barriers. Based on these findings, officials of UP Projects Corporation Ltd will prepare a detailed proposal, which will be sent to the headquarters for approval. Once cleared, the installation of floating bathing barriers and jetties at the identified ghats will begin. In the past six months, over two dozen drowning incidents have been reported at various ghats along the Ganga. Once the floating barriers are installed, they will be handed over to the Jal Police, who will be responsible for their maintenance and supervision....
