Five stray dogs die after eating poison-laced biryani
LUCKNOW, June 4 -- Five stray dogs died after consuming chicken biryani allegedly laced with poison and dumped near the taxi stand in Rajajipuram area of the city on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, police said. The condition of six other dogs is critical, they added.
According to Talkatora police station incharge Sandeep Saxena, a case has been registered against an unidentified individual under Section 325 (mischief by killing, maiming, or rendering useless any animal) of BNS, and under Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Local residents discovered the distressed animals, with some writhing in pain and others already lifeless.
After they alerted Jeev Ashraya, an NGO working for stray animal welfare, a rescue team reached the scene.
Shashi Shekhar, a member of the NGO, said, "By the time our team arrived, four dogs were already dead, while six others were in a critical condition. Two of the critically ill dogs were shifted to our facility for intensive care where one succumbed. Others were treated on site"
NGO manager Amit Sehgal alleged that it was a premeditated act as the culprit picked a blind spot to evade CCTV cameras....
