VARANASI, July 10 -- A court in Varanasi on Wednesday sentenced five accused to life and awarded five years to two others found guilty of murdering two people in 2019. The victims were a priest and his wife in a locality under Chetganj police station area of Varanasi. The court of the additional district judge (FTC-II) Sunil Kumar-III sentenced Rajendra Upadhyay, his wife Pooja Upadhyay, Rajat Upadhyay, Ramvichar Upadhyay to life, said Additional District Government Counsel (Criminal) Pawan Jaiswal and added that the court slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on Rajendra, Rs 21,000 on Pooja, Rs 28,000 on Rajat Upadhyay and Rs 18,500 on Ramvichar. In the same case, Achhe Hasan has been sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 7,000 for hiding evidence and Mahendra Pratap Rai has been sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000, said ADGC Pawan Jaiswal. However, the court acquitted five other accused Krishna Mohan Mishra, Madan Yadav, Manchanda, Vatsala and Kushmeshwar Mishra, giving them the benefit of doubt, as the charges were not proved in this case. District government advocate Muniv Singh Chauhan, ADGC Pawan Jaiswal, plaintiff's advocate Radheshyam Choubey and Santosh Singh presented their case on behalf of the prosecution in the court. According to the case, the priest of Pischachmochan, Krishnakant Upadhyay, was shot dead outside his house in Kalimahal of Chetganj police station area. Then the killers entered the house and killed his wife Mamta Upadhyay. They also attempted to kill Krishnakant's son Sumit, but he managed to escape. After shooting Krishnakant and Mamta, the attackers also attacked them with a chopper. The deceased's son, Sumit, filed a case against his uncle Rajendra Upadhyay, aunt Pooja Upadhyay, her son Rajat Upadhyay and Ram Vichar Upadhyay. Later, during investigation, the police made Krishna Mohan Mishra, Madan Yadav, Manchanda, Vatsala, Kushmeshwar Mishra and Ramesh Upadhyay accused in this incident when their names came to light.
