GORAKHPUR, Jan. 28 -- Five police outpost incharges have been suspended over alleged negligence in a case involving abduction, sexual assault, and sale of a minor girl. Senior superintendent of police (SSP), Gorakhpur, Raj Karan Nayar, has taken strict disciplinary action against the five cops for alleged negligence. District authorities have also decided to seal three hotels owned by the main accused, while scrutiny has intensified on spa centres allegedly operated by him in Deoria and Maharajganj districts. The SSP confirmed that a departmental inquiry has also been ordered against the five police outpost incharges. The suspended officials include the outpost in-charges of Betiya Hata, Kareem Nagar, Vikas Nagar, Barhal Ganj, and Unwal. Police officials stated that further action would be taken based on the findings of the departmental investigation. The station house officer (SHO) of Gorakhnath police station had earlier been removed from his post while rape charges have been invoked against five accused, including hotel owner Dhirendra Singh, hotel manager Adarsh, spa operator Ankit Pandey, and others. According to the police investigation, the minor girl was lured by a person she came in contact with on a social media platform, and ran away from her residence under the jurisdiction of Gorakhnath police station on January 5. She was later traced to a hotel on January 20, where she was sexually assaulted and subsequently moved between several spa centres in the district. Arrests of three accused were made on January 24 under section 138 (abduction), section 142 (wrongful confinement and section 63 (rape) of the BNS and POCSO Act following firm intervention by the SP city after a complaint lodged by the mother of the victim. SP city Abhinav Tyagi termed the case extremely serious and emphasized that no leniency would be shown in crimes involving women and minors. Officials further revealed that the main accused, Dhirendra Kumar Singh, a hotel owner, allegedly played a key role in illegally confining and exploiting the minor. Preliminary findings suggest that the racket extended beyond the city, with spa centres operating in other districts as well. Further investigation is underway....
