Meerut, May 13 -- A station house officer was among the five police personnel who were sent to police lines for allegedly assaulting women of a Dalit family in Meerut's Lawad area on May 7, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Vipin Tada said.
A video, purportedly of the incident, on social media shows police officers thrashing the women during an arrest following a land dispute between two brothers. The issue gained traction after former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav shared the video.

Responding to the growing public pressure, SSP Tada relieved SHO Nitin Pandey, outpost in-charge Indresh Vikram Singh, sub-inspectors Sumit Gupta and Pawan Saini, and constable Wasim from field duties and sent them to police lines.

A team led by Nempal, the national president of the Rashtriya Jatav Mahasangh, met the family and promised support. A Congress delegation, led by former Sardhana candidate Syed Rihanuddin, also visited the family and facilitated a phone call with the party's Uttar Pradesh president Ajay Rai....
