Five-century-old Mudiya Mela begins in Govardhan from today
AGRA, July 4 -- The five-century old, renowned Mudiya Mela, organised on Guru Poornima (full moon night) will begin on July 4 in the Goverdhan hillock in Mathura district. The fair will reach its peak on July 10.
While inspecting the area on Thursday, Mathura district magistrate CP Singh and SSP Shlok Kumar informed that the mela area has been divided into nine super zones, 21 zones and 62 sectors. To manage the large footfall, 1,100 roadways buses will be deployed, while the key security and disaster management arrangements will include deployment of two flood platoons of PAC at three locations, one NDRF team, and two companies of PAC stationed at seven points.
The Mela has a Bengal connection and dates back to the times of seer Sanatan Goswami and his brother Roop Goswami who were basically ministers in the court of Hussain Shah in Bengal about five centuries ago. Well versed in Persian and Sanskrit, the brothers came to Vrindavan after being inspired by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, a great seer also from Bengal, who had come to Vrindavan.htc...
