First edition of Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon held
Agra, Nov. 3 -- The first edition of the Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon was held on Sunday at more than 60 locations across India, including Agra.
The event at Air Force Station Agra witnessed participation from over 2,500 Air Force personnel, Army and paramilitary members, civilians and their families, who took part with great enthusiasm, defence officials said.
Air Marshal P Shivanand, AVSM, VM, senior air staff officer, headquarters Central Air Command (CAC), was the chief guest at the Agra event.
The marathon was conducted in three categories, 21 km, 10 km, and 5 km, for both men and women, according to a press statement issued by the defence PRO, Lucknow.
In addition to the chief guest, the prize distribution ceremony was conducted by Air Commodore SK Gupta, VM, Air Officer Commanding, Air Force Station Agra and Shaveta Gupta, president, Air Force Wives Welfare Association (Local).
Group Captain Mohit Srivastava, chief administrative officer, Air Force Station Agra, served as the chief coordinator of the event.
Including Agra, the Central Air Command (CAC) successfully organised the first edition of the Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon at nine locations near various Air Force stations under its command.
The main event was held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi, and was simultaneously conducted at 60 Air Force stations across the country.
This was the first edition of the Sekhon Marathon, held in honour of Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, who was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest wartime military decoration, for his valour during the Indo-Pak War of 1971....
