Dehradun, Oct. 20 -- The first batch of the Yuva Aapda Mitra Prashikshan Karyakram (Youth Disaster Friend Training Programme) concluded at the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Corps Headquarters, Jolly Grant, on Sunday, with certificates distributed to 34 trained volunteers. The week-long programme, aimed at equipping youth with essential skills in disaster management, was organised jointly by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA). The first batch underwent intensive theoretical and practical training from October 13 to October 19, covering key areas such as first aid, general disaster management, search techniques, and rope rescue operations. At the closing ceremony, SDRF Commander Arpan Yaduvanshi presented certificates to the participants and lauded their commitment to public service. "As Disaster Mitras, these young volunteers will serve as vital links in strengthening the state's disaster preparedness. This training not only imparts technical knowledge but also instils values of service, discipline, leadership, and responsibility," he said. Officials said the training programme is part of SDRF's broader initiative to build a community-based response system capable of providing immediate assistance during natural calamities such as floods, landslides, and earthquakes. Inspector Pramod Rawat, Sub-Inspector Anoop Ramola, and other officers from the SDRF Battalion Headquarters and training team were also present at the ceremony.
