FIRs against 79 in Kashi over road encroachment
VARANASI, June 22 -- Police registered FIRs against 79 individuals during an anti-encroachment drive carried out in localities under Kotwali, Chowk, Dashashwamedh, and Luxa police stations, officials said here on Saturday.
The crackdown was carried out as part of a special campaign initiated on the direction of police commissioner Mohit Agarwal to ease traffic congestion and reclaim public spaces from encroachers.
"Encroachments causing obstruction in traffic flow were removed. FIRs have been lodged against 79 encroachers in four police station areas," said deputy commissioner of police (Crime) Sarvanan T, adding that the campaign will continue in the coming days.
He said authorities are also identifying habitual violators who repeatedly encroach upon public spaces. A list is being prepared, and strict action will be taken against them. Assistant commissioner of police, Dashashwamedh, Atul Anjan Tripathi, said surveillance is being maintained in areas prone to repeated encroachments.
