Fires break out in Prayagraj, goods worth lakhs damaged
Prayagraj, Aug. 12 -- Two separate fire incidents in the city have caused damage worth several lakh rupees. One fire broke out on Monday morning in an electrical goods warehouse, while another broke out at a saree showroom late Sunday night.
On Monday around 10:30 am, a fire started on the ground floor of a three-storey house in South Malaka, Rambagh. The building, owned by chartered accountant RK Agarwal, had a warehouse on the ground floor and a Bank of Baroda branch on the first floor. A family also lived in part of the building.
An electrical short circuit is suspected to have caused the fire. As smoke and flames spread, bank staff raised an alarm. Due to the heavy smoke, three people, including two women, became trapped. They were safely rescued by the Fire Brigade. Fire safety officer Rajesh Kumar led the team with four fire engines. It took about three hours to control the fire. Goods worth several lakhs were destroyed.
In a separate incident around 1 am on Sunday night, a fire broke out at a saree showroom opposite Jagannath Temple on Purana Katra Kachhari Road. Locals saw smoke and informed shop owner Ravindra Jaiswal. Two fire engines were sent to the spot, and the fire was brought under control after nearly two hours. According to Jaiswal, the damage is estimated at Rs.15 lakh. The cause of the fire is not yet known....
