LUCKNOW, Dec. 8 -- Hours after the Goa fire incident on Sunday, authorities in Lucknow initiated a citywide inspection of major bars and restaurants to check fire-safety compliance and identify potential risks across crowded commercial hubs. "The preventive exercise was carried out on the instructions of the additional director general, Uttar Pradesh fire services, the Lucknow police commissioner and district magistrate," stated a Lucknow police press note. A joint team led by chief fire officer (CFO) Ankush Mittal and district excise officer (DEO) Karunendra Kumar Sachan examined safety arrangements at high-footfall outlets in the Summit Building. "The team also reviewed safety systems at popular outlets inside Rohtas Presidential. Excise inspector Arvind Baghel was also present during the inspection," the CFO said. "Officials checked the availability and functionality of fire extinguishers, alarms, hydrants and emergency exits, while also assessing the handling and storage of LPG cylinders," the CFO added. Establishments were asked to upgrade fire-safety systems, ensure safe LPG usage and keep all exit points clear for emergency evacuation.
