Prayagraj, April 29 -- The Prayagraj district fire department has reported nearly 400 fire incidents in April, a significant surge from March, which saw over 150 fire-related occurrences. Chief fire officer (CFO) RK Pandey stated that the rise in temperatures during the summer months typically leads to an increase in fire incidents. According to Pandey, the primary causes of fires this month have been stubble burning, electrical short circuits, and LPG leakage, which consistently top the list of triggers for fire outbreaks in the district. During the 45-day-long Mahakumbh, which concluded on February 26, a total of 188 fire incidents were reported, many of which were attributed to electrical short circuits and gas leakage. "With the harvesting of wheat at this time of year, farmers find it convenient to clear their fields by burning the leftover straw," Pandey explained. "Despite the restrictions in place, stubble burning continues to occur across all tehsils in the district." To avert further fire incidents, the CFO has advised a number of safety precautions, such as switching off all electrical appliances and the main power supply when leaving the house. He also said that inverters, which have become a frequent cause of fires, should be switched off before departure. Additionally, regular checks of LPG pipes and regulators are crucial to prevent accidents due to gas leaks. At present, the district is served by 9 fire stations, equipped with 16 fire engines, 5 small fire vehicles, and 5 two-wheeled fire-fighting backpacks, to respond to emergencies....
