Fire breaks out at religious ceremony in Ayodhya
AYODHYA, March 29 -- A major fire broke out during a religious ceremony (mahayagya) organised by transport minister Dayashankar Singh on the Saryu banks in Ayodhya on Saturday, said Ayodhya SSP Gaurav Grover, adding that no casualties were reported.
Around a dozen fire tenders were deployed to bring the blaze under control.
People present there alleged the blaze was triggered by the explosion of a coconut offered as maha-ahuti, adding that within moments, the flames engulfed the entire yagyashala, triggering panic at the site.
The yagyashala is located about 800 metres from the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
In a statement the minister said, "A fire suddenly broke out in the yagyashala. Fire brigade teams were already deployed there and quickly brought the blaze under control. There has been no loss of life, and the situation is now under control." Everyone was safely evacuated from the pandal. htc...
