Fire at Ravidas temple in Varanasi, around 100 peopleevacuated
VARANASI, Dec. 30 -- A fire broke out at Shri Guru Ravidas Temple in Varanasi on Monday, prompting a swift response from fire services that led to the safe evacuation of around 100 people, police said.
According to officials, information was received about a fire on the ground floor of the temple, with reports that nearly 100 people were trapped inside. Following the alert, two fire units from Bhelupur fire station and one fire vehicle from Chetganj fire station were rushed to the spot along with necessary staff and equipment, chief fire officer (CFO) Anand Singh Rajpoot said.
Officials said flames and thick smoke were seen emanating from the ground floor. Firefighters immediately began firefighting operations, while people stranded on the first and second floors were rescued and evacuated safely through the stairs.
Rajpoot said that after nearly an hour of firefighting using three fire engines, the blaze was completely brought under control.
No casualties were reported in the incident, he added. Prima facie, the fire appears to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, the chief fire officer said....
