Rudrapur, May 11 -- A first information report (FIR) has been registered against a 37-year-old man for allegedly giving shelter to a Pakistani woman who he married over a decade ago, police said on Saturday, adding that the 32-year-old woman has been deported to her country. "We have booked the man for providing shelter to his Pakistani wife staying illegally in the country for over a decade. The FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Foreigners Act," said Anil Joshi, senior sub-inspector, Kashipur police station, on Saturday. He further said that the FIR was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by Vinod Kumar, a sub-inspector of the local intelligence unit in Kashipur. In his complaint, he stated that Kupwara police had alerted them about the woman, identified as Shahida Bano about her illegal stay. The local intelligence unit of the police launched a search for the woman and found her residing in Laxmipur Patti colony of Kashipur with her husband Farukh Hussain, who is a resident of the village. "During questioning, the woman revealed that she entered India from Attari border on October 28, 2012 along with her father Nasim Ahmed Batt on a visitor visa for 45 days. She went to Kupwara of Kashmir and married Farukh, a resident Udham Singh Nagar, who used to work as a car mechanic in Kupwara," Vinod Kumar said, adding that both shifted to Kashipur after the Pahalgam terror attack. He further said that the woman was taken into custody on April 28 and handed over to the Kupwara police at Attari-Wagah border to deport her to Pakistan.
