PRAYAGRAJ, June 29 -- District authorities have initiated legal action against alleged land grabbers following a probe into encroachment on government land in the Prayagraj West Assembly constituency. The case was taken up after local MLA Siddharth Nath Singh filed a complaint with the chief minister's office earlier this year. On Friday, a special investigation team (SIT) constituted on the MLA's complaint submitted its report to district magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar during a public hearing. The team included senior officials such as DCP (City) Abhishek Bharti, ADM (finance and revenue) Vinita Singh, Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) secretary Ajit Singh, ADCP (Trans-Yamuna) Abhijeet Kumar, SDM (Soraon) Thakur Prasad Singh, and tehsildars from Phulpur and Sadar. According to an official from the DM office, the inspection found no encroachment on the 23-bigha plot in Rasulpur Mariyadih earmarked for a cowshed. However, other locations revealed unauthorised occupation. A road around 15 metres long and 6 metres wide was found constructed on land belonging to the ATS police station in Kashipur Uparhar. Encroachments were also reported on land designated for the Election Commission's proposed warehouse at Rasulpur Kashipur Uphaar and Mariyadih Uphaar. The warehouse project covers around two acres. Following the report, the DM directed the Tehsildar (Sadar) to register an FIR and initiate steps to clear the site. The chief engineer of the electricity department has been asked to remove electricity poles dumped on the plot, while the PDA secretary has been instructed to file a case regarding unauthorised construction around the Kanha Gaushala, an official informed....
